Earth Day Canada Gala 2017 - A fundraiser for EarthPLAY, June 14th in the Distillery District

Thursday, June 1st 2017 1:09:39pm

Media Advisory & Camera Call

WHAT: The Earth Day Canada Gala is an opportunity for environmental leaders to come together, celebrate recent accomplishments and have fun.

Proceeds will fund EDC’s EarthPLAY program, which is building a new generation of leaders through outdoor, child-directed play - this means the event will have lots of playful elements (and great photo op’s!).

WHEN: Wednesday, JUNE 14, 2017
Hometown Heroes Awards Ceremony: 5 - 6 pm EST
VIP Reception: 6 -7 pm EST
Gala Continues: 7 pm EST onwards

WHERE: The Beer Hall at Mill Street Brew Pub, 21 Tank House Lane (Distillery District)

WHO: Attendees include three-time Olympic medalist Silken Laumann, award-winning author Kenneth Oppel, Me to We ambassador Hannah Alper, winners of EDC’s Hometown Heroes Awards for environmental leadership in Canada, and EDC president Deb Doncaster.

MORE: There will be hyper-local food by Fresh City Farms -haute vegetarian cuisine with “harvesting stations,” where guests can pick their own herbs and edible flowers - and Chocosol, who will serve up zero-footprint tacos and tamales. One of the hottest new restaurants in town, NishDish (First Nations owned and operated), is providing traditional Anishnawbe fare. Southbrook Vineyards, Canada’s first biodynamic, organic winery will supply the wine.

Live entertainment is by Turbo Street Funk, a local New Orleans inspired brass rock band that will be roaming the venue encouraging guests to dance along with them.

Adventure-themed prizes to be won, including a guided kayak, canoe or even SUP tour down the Humber River from local tour company Toronto Adventures, a weekend rental of the newest SMART fortwo electric car, a family photo shoot courtesy of Jérome Photography, and more.
